It has been attributed that, Brain drain by some of the professional academic staff of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic and other monotechnic belonging to Zamfara state government as one of the factors affecting the academic performance as well as growth and development of education not only in the state”s tertiary institutions but country at large.
This was made known by the ASUP chairman, Federal Polytechnic Kauran Namoda in Zamfara state Comrade. Siraj Muhammad Funtua while addressing journalists in his office Today.
He lamented how zamfara state government is yet to remove and gazetted the issue of HND/Bsc certificates dichotomy hence the needs to call on the state government to join other states like Kano and Katsina who removed the dichotomy about three month and look inward in solving the problem as soon as possible.
“The deplorable condition of state Polytechnics and Monotechnics. Example Abdu Gusau Polytechnic lost several academic staff to the Federal University Gusau due to poor remunerations and poor funding by the Zamfara state Government”. He said.
According to him, the Union resolved to embark on an indefinite strike with effect from the 13 November, 2017 if government at all levels failed to live up to expectations while the Union calls on Nigerians to prevail on the government to do the needful so that the Polytechnic sector can be revived and sustained for technological development in Nigeria.
Similarly, some of their demands according to him are, non-implementation
Non-payment of promotion arrears/Shortfalls in salaries in some Institutions, Non-payment of ‘’First 28 Days’’ allowance by the government, Non-implementation of CONPCASS salary structure by some State and Federal Polytechnics, Non-implementation of CONTISS 15, and non-payment of arrears for the lower cadre by the Federal government despite all promises.
Others are disregard of due process and victimization of Union leaders by Management of some Institutions, General poor funding of the sector since 2014 to date by the state and federal Government respectively, leading to infrastructure among others.
ZURU: Beyond The Traditional Borders Of My Political Concerns

To the best of my knowledge, and I travel a lot around to know, hardly do any communities exist in northern Nigeria with road access deprivation like those of Zuru Emirate. Perhaps communities around Gombe-Numan little compare save for the attention the road has been receiving on discussion related to infrastructural deficit and the little physical interventions they brings. The painful thing about the case of Zuru is that the issue of its road is hardly discussed. In my view, the case of access road around Zuru point to the fact that the meaning and essence of political participation need to be redefined in and for the Emirate at local, state and federal levels. The few diversions of Maga-Ri...
