His Excellency, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State is exploring the potential for livestock breeding, local milk sourcing and development to boost the revenue drive and the livelihood of farmers in Kebbi State.
On the 10th of November, 2017, just a day after his visit to the factory of the makers of Peak Milk & Three Crowns Milk (FrieslandCampina WAMCO) in Lagos, Nigeria; a team of 50 left Kebbi State for Oyo State to visit the company’s Milk collection and bulking centers.
The Kebbi team were received in Ibadan by the Dairy Development Manager, Mr. Adekunle Olayiwola John who accompanied them to the Milk collection center in Baalé village in Fasola, Oyo State and also to the Milk bulking Center located in Iseyin.
The Kebbi team were sensitized on the Milk production process, value of milk and livestock production, hygienic milk collection and testing, effects of Animal Health and nutrition on milk quality and the economic value of the Milk production business.
The team also joined the Baalé community in a town hall meeting after which they interacted with the community leaders, citizens and Fulani settlers who form the majority of milk suppliers. They informed the Kebbi team on the benefits they have received so far, with emphasis on empowerment of the people, young and old.
Mr. John explained that FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nig. Ltd were invited to Kebbi by Governor Bagudu on an exploratory visit; of which he said from what they saw, Kebbi has all the potential to become the top supplier of milk in Nigeria as the 2nd largest livestock producer in Nigeria. He commended the Governor for his foresight and continued interests with the rural farmer in mind.
The Kebbi team comprises of officials of the Ministry of Animal Health including the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Usman Umar Dakingari; Directors of the Ministry; Chairman of the ‘Miyetti Allah’ Kebbi Fulani Community’; Miyetti Allah women leader, youth representatives and livestock farmers from different communities in Kebbi State.
Also in attendance were the State APC Chairman, Barr. Attahiru Maccido; Special Adviser on Security Matters, Col. M.S. Mohammed; Chairman Local Government; and SSA to the Governor on New Media.
It is expected that the team will return with a complete report as collaborations are to continue with possible partnerships between Kebbi State Government and FrieslandCampina WAMCO.

ZURU: Beyond The Traditional Borders Of My Political Concerns
Travelling from Niger State through Kontagora or Sokoto/Zamfara States through Daki-Takwas, a first timer on the road would never imagine that a city of historical and demographic importance as Zuru will emerge ahead of the unbearable potholes that images in this update partially represent. To the best of my knowledge, and I travel a lot around to know, hardly do any communities exist in northern Nigeria with road access deprivation like those of Zuru Emirate. Perhaps communities around Gombe-Numan little compare save for the attention the road has been receiving on discussion related to infrastructural deficit and the little physical interventions they brings. The painful thing about the case of Zuru is that the issue of its road is hardly discussed. In my view, the case of access road around Zuru point to the fact that the meaning and essence of political participation need to be redefined in and for the Emirate at local, state and federal levels.
