The Zamfara State Government on Friday awarded contracts of over N591 million for renovation and reconstruction of two Day Secondary Schools.
The schools are: Government Girls Day Secondary School, Bungudu and Government Day Secondary School, Danbaza in Bungudu and Maradun local government areas respectively.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, presented the contract notification letters to 24 indigenous contractors.
He said the contracts comprised total renovation, construction of new classrooms, staff quarters and supply of furniture, teaching and learning materials.
Wakkala said that work at the Government Girls Day Secondary School Bungudu, would cost about N414 million, while that of Government Day Secondary School, Dambaza, will cost over N177 million.
According to him, the state government decided to give the contract to indigenous contractors in order to assist in boosting the economy of the state.
He noted that the projects were part of the state government’s policy of reviving the education sector in the state.
Wakkala said from 2011 to date, the state government under the leadership of Gov. Abdulaziz Yari, had spent billions of naira on renovation and expansion of primary and secondary schools across the state.
He urged the contractors to ensure quality and speedy work in line with the contract agreement.
NAN recalls that the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo had last Tuesday inaugurated some reconstructed and renovated secondary schools in the state.
