Zamfara: Gummi LG Takes Steps To Avert Flooding



Disturbed by the loss of lives and property occasioned by the annual occurrence of flooding, Gummi Local Government Council of Zamfara State has put in place mechanisms to avert disaster this year.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the local government, Alhaji Sai’du Bawa Daki-Takwas in interview with members of the Correspondents Chapel, NUJ Zamfara State Council in his office in Gummi town.

“We decided to embark on the proactive measures to save our area from the annual disaster which always leaves in its trail loss of property worth several millions and sometimes loss of lives of human and animals,” he said.

Daki-Takwas called on the people of the local government area particularly the youths to mobilize each other to complement the government efforts by engage in the clearing of drainages and other blocked water ways.

“We have embarked on massive construction of culverts and water ways in the towns and villages in case of heavy downpour,” he added.

The chairman commended governor Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar for bringing development to the local government area through the construction of roads linking Gummi town, the council headquarters with major towns and villages of the local government.
