The Zamfara State Governor and Chairman Nigeria Governors' Forum has on Tuesday 21/11/17 pledged to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to achieve 100 percent success in conducting free and credible elections in the state.
The Gov stated this while receiving the newly posted Resident Electoral Commissioner ( REC) to the state Dr Asmau Sani Maikudi and members of her management to his office at Government House Gusau, the state Capital.
Yari assured the REC that the state government was ready to support all the activities of the commission to sustain the confidence of the electorate in the state in discharging its responsibilities.
Gov Yari however requested additional registration centres in all wards of the fourteen (14) Local Government Areas of the State in order to ease and facilitate registration and collection of voters cards in the ongoing registration and collection of voters cards exercise in the state.
Yari recalled the 2011 elections which brought his administration into power as well as other local government elections in the state which were peaceful, orderly, free, fair and credible were clear testimonies that INEC is capable of conducting free and transparent elections in the country.
Earlier in her remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mrs. Asma'u Sani Maikudi commended the Zamfara State Government for running advocacy and sensitization committees at both state and local government levels that made the recent collection and registration of voters a huge success.
She said the wisdom of His Excellency Governor Yari in setting up the Committees has yielded fruitful result as the second quarter of the exercise recorded 26,398 voters as against 22, 950 voters in the first quarter of the exercise.
She also announced the establishment of centres in Bardoki of Gummi Local Government, Mada of Gusau Local Government, Kwatarkwashi of Bungudu Local Government, Jangebe of Talata Mafara Local Government, Dansadau of Maru Local Government and Moriki of Zurmi Local Government.
