Educational Experts, Commend Zamfara State On Primary Education In Nigeria

Zamfara most friendly and supportive state in the area of early grade literacy in Nigeria, say Education Partners.

Zamfara state is now a leading role model toward ensuring the success of reading and numeracy for learners in primary 1-3 among states of the federation. It is a most friendly state in supporting grassroot educational activities toward ensuring developmental challenges of primary schools related to enrolment and quality of education outcomes.

This was made known by Dr. Mikail Ibrahim Barau, Literacy Coordinator of Reading and Numeracy Activity, RANA who represents the Project Director at grant finale of RANA reading festival organized for reading and numeracy activity in Gusau, Zamfara state.

The programme organized incollaboration with Zamfara state Universal Basic Education Board, ZSUBEB aims at improving sustainable reading delivery among primary school pupils and adults learning in the north which took place at Zamfara Teachers Training Centre, Gusau.

Dr Mikail Barau described the commitment and supports given to the success of the programme by the state government through the state universal primary board as one of the best in terms of creating awareness and strengthening the activities of reading culture among pupils of the primary schools and adults who joined to improve literacy in the state.

He said, the RANA programme funded by DfID through UNICEF and implemented by FHI 360 is for duration of three years from 2015-2018designed to improve literacy and numeracy instruction in primary grades 1-3 in both public schools and Integrated Qur’anic schools. The goal of the project is improving literacy outcomes for learners, especially girls by developing Hausa language teaching and learning materials, building teacher capacity, mobilizing communities, and engaged local governments and other stakeholders in the society.

Dr Mikail assured that, RANA will bring a sustainable direction for the improvement of child’s knowledge through use of mother tongue toward improvement of literacy. The programme is approximately affecting 200 schools that will involve 50000children along with 800 teachers and head teachers from Katsina and Zamfara states in northern Nigeria. The Coordinator expressed delight with the way Zamfara leads with the organisation of the first known reading festival around the country noting that the decision promotes reading in a way that exceeded all expectations of RANA.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman of the Zamfara State Universal Education Board, ZSUBEB Hon. Murtala Adamu Jangebe commended the efforts of RANA initiators, partners and banks on their great sacrifices and finacial commitment for the improvement of child’s education in the state through such gigantic projects to improve the quality of literacy among the people of the state..

Murtala Jangebe, who is the Dean of the Conference of UBE chairmen from 36 states and FCT assured the continuous commitment and supports from the state UBE in ensuring the success of the RANAprogramme and its continuation toward sustaining a formidable direction for the improvement of primary education and service delivery in the state.

In their goodwill messages, Executive Secretary of UBEC, Abuja Dr Hammed Bobboyi, the Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Mukhtar Lugga and Zamfara state First Lady Hajiya Asmau Abdul’Azeez Yari while expressing delights and appreciations to the initiators of the competition they also assured their total commitment and support toward achieving the success of such programme in improving the quality of grass roots education among children of Zamfara state through ensuring the monitoring and supports all the time.

At the state level reading festival, participants of the competition include children aged 9-13 and adults of 35-68-years old received many cash gifts, cups and other valuable gifts from categories of the competitions; as young Nasmatu Aminu from Gusau local government received overall gift after defeating many contestants in the reading of Hausa story for the first position.

Many people across the walks of life attended the event including traditional rulers, community leaders, parents and educationists among others.
