HAJIYA AISHA ALHASSAN: The Thin Line Between Loyalty And Service

By: Abdulrasheed Ahmad Imam

I saw the surprises, the jaw dropping when that video surfaced on the social media of Aisha Alhassan canvassing support for Atiku for 2019 presidency, while she is still a serving federal minister.

Same Aisha Alhassan led coalition of women societies on a courtesy visit to the Peoples Democratic Party National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi at the party temporal secretariat in Abuja.

This is the first in history. But I tell people to brace themselves for internal implosion of disloyalty in Buhari’s cabinet, this is just the beginning, and below is my reasons;

You must take a holistic look at the problem and be able to examine the content instead of the bottle.

Virtually 95% of Buharis cabinet or appointments are recommended by some powerful people or some powerful people’s boys.

Aisha Alhassan for example and Garba Shehu are Atku’s boys, some ministers are IBB boys, some are TY Danjuma boys, others are Tinubu boys, and some are Obasanjo boys. Others are Jonathan adopted boys like CBN Governor and the NIA Director.

Most of key board members of ministries and parastatals are still occupied by PDP card carrying members.

The only person that doesn’t have his boys in the cabinet is Buhari himself, for the exception of Adamu Adamu and Malami.

Most of these people are loyal to the people behind their appointments, and not to the oga at the top. A lot have nothing to lose if the government fell to deliver.

Appointments in politics are made base on two things Loyalty and competence.

Buhari has network of die hard loyalists and supporters in almost every state in Nigeria. People who have been with him through his political journey for 14 years.

These are courageous people who have stick around with him in all those time of struggle but were abandoned and some forgotten when he assumed leadership.

These people believed in Buhari but Buhari did not believe in them. Buhari forgot that ‘an ounce of loyalty is worth more than pounds of cleverness’.

PMB must bring close to him competent people from amongst his loyalists for Nigeria to achieve the goal and objectives of his leadership.

Unless and until these problems are addressed holistically in the most likely cabinet reshuffle, we will be seeing more of people like senator Aisha with divided loyalty doing what they know best...
