Open Letter To President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR)

Your Excellency,
Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR),
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
Aso Rock Villa,
Abuja-Nigeria.
Sir,

FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN

I really acknowledge the level of your dedication, patriotism and eagerness towards moving this country out of the wood and take it to the promised land.

I also have 100% belief and confidence that you posses the zeal, quality, integrity, ability and willingness to achieve that goal as a President, especially when putting into consideration your antecedents and credibility as a person.

It's an open secret that you have unquestionable track record, disciplined and have disdain to corruption, based on that, I don't have to crack my brain or check my history books to remember that you have fought many battles in your life.

I am very much aware that you have fought corruption and indiscipline, you have fought drift and purposelessness, you have fought indolence and betrayal of trust.

You struggled for, and keep struggling for the unity and progress of this country, as you were once quoted saying.

More over, you have been serving this country in many different capacities, as a Governor, Minister, Military Head of State, Head of PTF and now as Democratically elected President of this great Country, and in all these, you have not ever been caught with a single theft, despite haven the opportunity to do so.

It's with this track record, when you came out and submitted yourself to serve this Country again with your party's slogan 'change', we all believed there would be the change we had been yearning for in the affairs of this country, so we voted out former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and rallied behind you on 25th of March, 2015 and voted you into office as our President, with the hope that you could be the Messier of this country. We are very much confident and pray that with you as a leader, we shall see light at the end of the tunnel, in shaa Allah.

Being your ardent supporter, that doesn't make me to be only a Hailer. I hail and I wail, depends on how my friends perceive my opinions. Sir, since before 2015, I have been with your campaign train up to precisely 25th March, 2015 when I campaigned for you, with my energy, time, resources through buying recharge cards and sending them to your campaign team for successful outings.

I risked my job by coming out in the open and campaigned for you and criticised the Government of the day, on the social media, in the market places, religious gatherings and even in our offices.

I came out and cast my vote for you, remained there up till closing hours, counted the votes in my presence and followed them to the collation center (a kasa, a tsare, a raka, a jira). I waited patiently for good six months waiting for you to carefully select your able and 'saint' ministers, also waited and still waiting for you to constitute the federal Government boards of parastatals more than two years after their dissolutions.

Before I go further Sir, I have to appreciate and commend your inestimable efforts in reducing the second enemy of this Country after Corrupt Government officials, BOKO HARAM to almost nonentity. Definitely, history will write your name with a golden pen. Sir, despite all the above mentioned qualities of yours, leadership doesn't require "only" honesty and prudence to succeed, it requires the combination, accumulation and application of other important qualities, among which is flexibility where necessary, especially in a complex and cumbersome nation like Nigeria.

A leader must have the will and ability to unite his diversed people through the application of systematic wisdom via consultations with relevant stakeholders from among the various components that made up Nigeria, listening to them and becoming flexible where necessary and otherwise where necessary.

A leader doesn't have to be all knowing, rigid and inflexible all the time. Nobody knows it all, even a subordinate can be useful. He shouldn't be also a vengeance leader.

Nelson Mandela is our typical example. He was incarcerated for more than 27 years, but after he became the president, he forgives all that had hands in his misfortunes.

Mr. President sir, I don't know if you are aware that your blind and ignorant followers insult anyone that observes your mistakes, probably the writer of this piece, thereby generating more enemies than friends for you. I also like to draw your attention that you are so much moving slowly especially on issues of national importance, such as on the issue of board of directors for different DAs in the country.

Your Excellency Sir, I have commended your effort to assist the state government solve their salary problems with the civil servants. You have pumped a lot of amount of money with different names, like bailout, London/Paris over deduction refund, agricultural intervention fund etc which amount to over N4trn.

But this is not enough sir, you have to follow up to make sure they are used judiciously, where they are meant for. The Governors have been living in Paradise with these states' resources while their subjects are living in destitution.

Junketing from one state to another or overseas in chartered planes at this material time. I just heard that my state governor last week chattered a Saudi jet from there to Nigeria at the rate of $200K, gives his godfather's son N72m and a house in Abuja with 2017 BMW X6 worth N25 million as wedding gifts.

Your Excellency sir, on two consecutive fiscal years, about 60% of capital projects are placed in the south west alone while here in the north, where you got majority of your votes, are yet to witness half of what's going on there, just as Senator Kabiru Gaya stated.

You have virtually abandoned most of those who suffered for you, including the north in general. Your wife, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari testified to this in her BBC Hausa interview.

The observations are many.
Mr. President sir, In the area of employment, many nepotistic injustice had taken place where children of those in power secretly and selectively got employment in some good DAs like CBN, FIRS, NIMASA etc, leaving the masses with N-Power, Police recruitment. All these happened under your watch and nothing has been done despite the uproar from talakawas.

These are some of the things happening that absolutely go contrary to your principles that we knew you with, and influenced us to cast our votes for you.

Your Excellency sir, despite bumper harvest in the country, prizes of foodstuff are very higher out of the reach of common man. You have to look into this in order to call the famers and marketers to order.

Finally sir, you have to check your kitchen cabinet, whose selfish interests supersede national interests, who, as reported by many media houses, fighting each other for their vested interests, who, according to some media reports, doctored the report of Presidential investigative committee on arms procurement and shielded their cabal member indicted. I know you all know these, but what disturbs me, is your continuous silence for all this while. And I hope, you will soon get rid of the dormant ones from among your "saint" ministers.

Thank you sir.
Yours faithfully,
Salis Muhammad Moriki
