THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH: I Was Vindicated , But Very Disappointed

By Salis Muhammad Moriki

First I have to congratulate Nigeria and Nigerians for the 57th independence anniversary. I pray that may Allah continue to send us more blessings and guide our leaders and give them zeal and sincerity to lead us honestly and judiciously.

I didn't have the opportunity to listen to Mr. President live, but I went through the speech after I came back from morning training.

I must confess, in totality, that this is the most articulated and confidence booster speech Mr. President ever delivers. In fact, the president has taken us back to the country's situation when they came in, the plans they put in place, what they are able to achieve so far, and the remaining goals left to achieve, in shaa Allah.

The president was out to tell Nigerians what they have done so far, for them to see, analyse and judge.

I can see, the president focused on three cardinal angles, which by extension, are the main problems affecting the country in general: security, economy and corruption which brought about poverty, unemployment and many vicious and calamitous defects braving the country.

Going by the president's speech, the government has tried and achieved tremendous progress in many facets of nation building.

One doesn't need to be told the efforts and tangible evidences on ground concerning government's commitment in its resolve to address these burning issues.

I hope, with this crop of leadership, and its zeal and sinceriry of purpose, we will see light at the alen of the tunnel, in shaa Allah.

The president, in his moves to show how they have gone so far, he specifically mentioned the sum of amount the federal government gave out to States as bailout in order to solve salary and arrears problems affecting many states in the country.

The president also gratefully commended some state governments for their relentless efforts and commitment in deversifying the Nigeria's economy to complement the Federal Government policy, especially through agriculture.

He specifically mentioned Lagos, Kebbi, Kaduna, Edo, Ondo, Plateau, Cross Rivers, Benue, Ogun and Imo states. All, as mentionwd above, for their complementing efforts to achieve the economic diversification and food security in the country.

TO MY SURPRISE AND WHERE I WAS VINDICATED ON MY PREVIOUS WRITES UP, AND AT THE SAME TIME, DISAPPOINTED, THE PRESIDENT HAS NOT MENTIONED THE NAME OF MY STATE, WHERE FARMING IS A PRIDE AMONG THE NAMES OF THOSE STATES PLAYING ROLES IN AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION OF THIS COUNTRY.

I am really disappointed.
