Zamfara NLC Strike: In Search Of Zamfara Elders By Anas Sani Anka

Please permit me a space to make some inquiries? Do we have elders in Zamfara?, if at all we have, do they care about the way things fall apart especially with the current strike action that almost paralyzes socio-economic activities in the state?.

I ask these questions because, for the past five days when this strike action lasted in Zamfara not a single one out of these elders cares to lend his voice in calling for the government and the Governor in particular to listen to the demands of the members of the NLC and restore sanity in the state.

It always baffles me when during elections some of these people that call themselves elders comes out during political rallies and campaigns to claim they are the elders that knows the problem of Zamfara more than anybody but after their political parties won or lost election these elders of Zamfara disappears like hurricane.

For now Zamfara is blessed with dozens of academic professors, doctorate degree holders successful business men but within Nigeria and abroad, political elites and other key personalities you may think of but one funny thing that keeps wondering my memory is, majority of them are not passionate and willing to use their influence to chat a headway for the state.

Sometimes you do hear about the existence of elders committee in states like Katsina, Sokoto and Kebbi and their responsibility is to unite and chat a way out for any government in power without recourse to their political differences.

In Zamfara is either we don’t have the elders or they are not united. And if they are not united because of political differences then should that affect the progress of the state?.

I challenged any of the elders in Zamfara to please come out and champion the course of reconciliation between Zamfara NLC and State Government.

If none of the state elders can champion this then forget it we does not have elders and we the youths would use our little opportunity to chat the way out for the state.
