We are actually very intolerant of contrary view, promoting democratically elected leaders to deities. Our brother Dr. Aliyu U. Tilde was bold enough to objectively analyse our situation today citing numerous examples.
I will narrate my experience in 2003 in my village Lawanti, where opposing Abubakar Habu Hashidu in the village is seen as heretical. In reality it was just a blind love that was elavated to deification of the then Governor.
I felt at that time there was no need for the hatred shown to Goje or his supporters. If you are a Goje loyalist you dare not voice it, in fact, even after the defeat of Hashidu, Goje's supporters had to celebrate in secret.
On his part, Goje after assuming power his intolerance to opposition was second to none. Some of our journalist friends can testify to that. He promoted kalare to advance level. We heard several accusations of politically motivated killings.
The story is everywhere in northern Nigeria. APC or Buhari's supporters display worst when it comes to intolerance. You dare not criticise Buhari, even your family members will disown you.
The last time I spoke about Buhari, my mum called me with a frightened voice asking that she hoped these people will not hurt me. People all over the place were saying I spoke bad about Buhari.
My wife called my attention to an audio circulating on WhatsApp in which someone in an Islamic gathering in Lagos was cursing me for asking Buhari to resign. Some swear to God that I am shiite.
This high level of intolerance in the north is worrying. People like Zakari Kafin Hausa and other young men were incarcerated by their state Governors for disagreeing with their ways of Governance.
