Today is a special day as it marks, once again the birthday of our Leader, the grand Commander of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, a two-term Governor of Kano State, among other exalted positions, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

I write this piece with mixed feelings- happiness, sadness, nostalgia, hope, remebrance.... they are plenty. Yet, all can be qualified in this writing. For starters, I wish Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso a happy birthday. It is a birthday like no other because for the most part, people across Nigeria and beyond celebrate this day as a sign of respect and recognition, as a way to identify with what you are to them.

Most importantly we celebrate this day for what you mean, at different times to various people. You are indeed a great leader whose life is worthy of celebration and accolades simply because you have a genuine care for humanity, most especially the future generation and what becomes of it.

I am happy to write this piece and I will always be glad to serve you as a lot other people. What it means is by being around you, serving you we believe some of your greatness and nobility will rub off on us. In essence we want to be like you. We want to emulate your selflessness, your forthrightness, your compassion and kindness, your decency, your contentment  and eapecially your vision for building a Nigeria we can all be proud of. As we celebrate this day, we pray to Almighty Allah to protect you, elevate you, provide for you and yours. May you sour higher and in the service of humanity.

I am also sad while writing this piece especially when I remember your service to the good people of Kano State and how some people, who do not understand the value of what you've done are hell-bent on destroying your legacies. I ask myself severally and I want my dear readers to help me ask the people in charge of Kano State resources: what is the end game? What are they going to achieve by this massive destruction of programs and policies that were meant to benefit generations yet unborn? For example the almajiris, those poor, lonesome children you'd tried to save by establishing schools for Islamic studies across all 44 Local Governments will continue to roam the streets because that laudable initiatives is trauncated, for no just reason. I am sure you aimed at saving their future. You wanted to give them a new lease of life. Thus when I remember this and several similar mishaps, it saddens me. On this note, I use this medium to thank you for this and other nobel efforts. I am absolutely sure, Allah will take care of them for you. You've displayed campassion and care. May it be recorded in your book of good deeds in the hereafter.

I am nostalgic when I remember what Kano had been, when you were the Governor. Not just a Governor but an alert and vigilant leader who cares what happens and when. Let me assure you Sir that every right thinking person in Kano, who is on the right side of his age loves and misses you. I could be at the wrong side of my age, which means my thoughts and actions will be retrogressive. Those types are not included in the nostalgia. The right thinking people in Kano are always talking about might-have-beens if you were to be in Kano right now. We want to see you. We want to hear your wise sayings. We want to see your visions translated into workable plans that will be for the collective benefit of all- the rich, the poor, the mighty, the down-troden. And because we cannot have that anymore, we are nostalgic. However, we pray for you everyday and this day is no exception. As we celebrate your birthday, we say a big thank you for your service to your people. We pray and wait for that day when we will repay you in kind. It is the only way to appreciate you, as a leader who cares.

My hope for you Sir and the good people of Kano State cannot be quantified. We  see you as our very best. May your successes multiply. May Allah take care of you and preserve you for us. May you achieve the most exalted position. May you have the best of everything in this world and the hereafter. Happy birthday Sir. It is indeed a worthy life, by all standards, worth celebrating.

May you have the chance to bridge inequalities in Nigeria. May all  Nigerians rally behind you, when the time comes, so that together, we embrace Nigeria's tomorrow.
