If we are to call a spade a spade, the 'legendary' Mai-shayi empowerment escapade in kano is a clueless sojourn to put it mildly..
What is the innovation in 'empowering' people to make and sell tea on the street ?
What part of his brain did he crack to come up with such a 'revolutionary' empowerment programme ?
I see no difference between the Mai shayi empowerment in kano and the Goat empowerment in katsina..Two clueless sojourns !
If such Mai-Shai empowerment cluelessness is all the governor has to offer, why do we then need manifestos and programs of executions?
Why do we even need pre-election debates ?
Since the 80's Lagos and London have been battling with the issue of traffic congestion in their various cities..
While the then Lagos state governor taught the solution to the traffic congestion was to simply ban some vehicles from going out on some certain days using the odd and even number formula with car number plates, a Mayor in London came up with the (BRT idea) Bus Rapid Strategy.
Yes the two models worked at the time, but one was more creative, practical and sustainable..
Ironically, many years later,Governor Fashola went to the same London to borrow the BRT idea and implemented it in Lagos.
It has since been a success strory.
Truth is,The governor of a state is like the chief executive of a state just like the CEO in private settings..
These are usually unique talented individuals. In effect, the chief executive of a state is expected to take distinctive and strategic actions that could transform the fortune of a state and its people.
Governors are individuals that are created by a process of exposure to the point that their actions, personalities, and even private lives function symbolically represents significant dynamics prevalent in the state.
They are expected to make complex decisions and come up with extraordinary ideas and policies that could change the fortune of a state.
Even in football, some coaches are more sort after than the others for a reason.
For their technical and tactical expertise.
When Pep Guadiola insisted on a goal keeper that can play with his feet, some people thought he was crazy.
The idea is that if a goal keeper just kicks the ball into play aimlessly, there is the high likelihood that the ball will end up in the opposition half and on the oppositions feet loosing possession unnecessarily..
So the tactics is to keep possession of the ball always.
They build their play from the goal keeper,to the Defence, the midfield and then the attack.
No wonder they are scoring so many goals and having the lion share of possession in every game.
Of course any clueless person can be a football coach, but it takes intelligence and tactics to win a game of football.
We cannot celebrate mediocrity by tagging this Mai shayi debacle as an 'empowerment' Programme
No this is cluelessness to say the least.
Kano can do better.
