Funding And Capable Leadership As Key Salvaging Strategies:

The appointment of Hon. Murtala Adamu (Matawallen Jangebe) as the Chairman of Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) and the regular funding of its various activities are the most apparent strategies that have yielded tremendous positive results for anyone to see.

The release of N1.6Billion to ZSUBEB by His Excellency, the state Executive Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Abdul-Aziz Yari ( Shattiman Mafara) immediately after his swearing-in ceremony was the first indication of the Governor's commitment to reviving primary education in the state. This disbursement attracted the release of matching grant of the same magnitude for 2010/2011 intervention year from the Federal Government to address the infrastructural decay discovered by ZSPEAC, the state further released another lump sum of money to the tune of N2billion as special intervention fund for the construction of basic school infrastructure such as classrooms, libraries, toilets and staff housing among others.

Similarly, in the intervention period, 2012/2013, another lump sum of money to the tune of N1,883,914,011.00 was further released which equally stimulated the release of equal amount as matching grant from the Federal Government.

There is no doubt that the funds provided by the state Government and the corresponding grants from the Federal Government have succeeded in making a remarkable difference in the primary education sector of Zamfara State.

In the ere of infrastructure, Zamfara state universal basic education board has successfully constructed 330 new blocks of 3 classrooms in the 2010/2011 and renovated 59 for public primary schools throughout the state. The Board has equally succeeded in renovating 391 primary schools using 2012/2013 intervention.

Most of the township primary schools of the Local Government headquarters throughout the state have been renovated and equipped. It has also provided V.I.P toilets and hand pumps in public primary  schools across the state to enhance their sanitary conditions.

With the ingenious creative posture of its Chairman, the Board has succeeded in using the funds to establish a befitting Teacher Training Centre with the capacity of accommodating 400 participants for training at a time. The centre has many facilities including conference hall with 400 seating capacity, computer centres, residential quarters and hostels for trainees and instructors.

In a related development, the Board had built a befitting office complex with offices of international standard for the Executive Chairman, Permanent Members, Directors, Deputy Directors and other Principal officers. Similarly, the Board purchased 26 hilux vans as utility vehicles for the 14 LGEAs and Board headquarters: provided trucks for distribution of books and furniture, and jeep for other official journeys.

Further to this, the Board prepared designed and printed scheme of work and sample of lesson plans which were all distributed to primary schools to assist teachers in their day to day teaching activities.

The Board also organised a wide range of training programmes for thousand of teachers on different aspects of school subjects. These and many related strides are indeed unique to the present administration of the state and the Board will certainly leave behind a great educational legacy for our generation and many others to come.
